Parade
Lyrics by David Cameron Anderson, Davecamson Music ASCAP

My son asked me to march in a pride parade
He asked me to vote for his rights
I said, "I've no place in that masquerade and you'll just have to fight your own fights!"
I'm too old to be taking on God and the world and the neighbors would make my life hell
I've had more than enough of your anger unfurled
I agree with 'Don't ask and don't tell'

He invited his 'friend' to my house for a meal
and expected I'd treat him as a wife
How on earth does he truly expect me to feel when I only can fear for his life?
And I don't want to know what it is that they do
And I don't want to see his 'friend' again.
I told him, "My welcome mat is only for you - and not for your 'family' of men!"

I will march if I only can find the parade led by mothers who's hearts have been torn
Who refuse to take part in a Godless charade - sometimes wishing he'd never been born.
And I'll fight for the right to believe what I will and to draw my own line in the sand
And I hope that he knows that I do love him still
And accepts that I won't understand
