Madison Laughs
Lyrics by David Cameron Anderson, Davecamson Music ASCAP
Music by Roy Zimmerman

She was Madison
Never Maddy
She was certain of the name.
She was stupid,
So they told her
But she delighted in the fame
And when the boys came
She felt nothing
Until the dark one kissed her face
He took her picture
He has it with him
He wrote his name down just in case.

His name is Marlon
He's a senior
Or he would be if he'd stayed
He spends mornings
in a greenhouse
the work is easy and it's paid.
She likes his whisper
'cause it tickles
He uses words she understands
He says she's pretty.
He'd like to have her.
He made a ring of rubberbands.

Her mother told her to forget about love
Her father winks and rolls his eyes
Her mother shoots him a glance and gives him a shove
"If he tells you he loves you, he lies."

But Marlon loves her
She believes him
Once her mother threw them out
Then was sorry
in the morning
But she was sorrier for life without
Now Marlon brings them
Easter flowers
the Monday after Easter's past
Her mother tells her,
"Enjoy this kindness
Know that nothing good can last."

Her mother told her to forget about love
Her father winks and rolls his eyes
Her mother shoots him a glance and gives him a shove
"If he tells you he loves you, he lies."

Madison laughs.
